Jack Ridl's "Against Elegies" was chosen by Sharon Dolin and Billy Collins for the 2001 Chapbook Award from the Center for Book Arts in New York City. His poetry collections include The Same Ghost (1985), Between (1988), the chapbook After School (1987), and Poems from The Same Ghost and Between (1993). He is co-author with Peter Schakel of the text Approaching Poetry: Perspectives and Responses (St. Martin's Press). This year, while on a sabbatical from Hope College, he will be doing collaborative work with his daughter, the visual artist Meridith Ridl. In 1996, The Carnegie Foundation named Ridl the Michigan Teacher of the Year. He lives with his wife Julie, their cats and Clumber spaniels along Lake Michigan.
